During mcbw, ZIRKA becomes a place for encounter. In the exhibition “Because You Can’t Sit on a JPEG,” sitting is explored as a social practice and invites people to come together.
For mcbw, ZIRKA opens as a space for encounter and exchange. At its core is sitting—understood not only as a functional act, but as a social, spatial, and design practice. A central seating arrangement creates different modes of togetherness: it enables conversation, allows for moments of retreat, and directs a shared focus.
From this starting point, the exhibition explores how the objects we sit on shape our interactions. How do design, material, and posture influence the way we relate to one another?
The works on display move between function and sculpture, comfort and statement. Each seating object is conceived as a distinct position—both physically and conceptually.
Open to all those interested in design, the exhibition brings together student experiments and commercially established works, placing them in dialogue with one another.
Accompanied by music and drinks, ZIRKA becomes a space for gathering, exchange, and reflection.
