The Irish musician Maria Somerville released her second album and 4AD debut project, Luster, in April. A few months after the release, Somerville has now announced a brand-new EP titled Luster (Remixes), set to drop on January 21.
The EP breathes new life into six tracks from Somerville’s already spellbinding, windswept album in fitting and sometimes surprising ways, thanks to contributions from a host of friends and collaborators (Seefeel, YHWH Nailgun, Fatshaudi, colle, Asa Nisi Masa & Oscar18, and Boris).
An otherworldly yet grounded album featuring the atmospheric, whirring dreamgaze singles “Spring” and “Garden,” Maria Somerville’s Luster reflects her experiences on the shores of Lough Corrib in her native Connemara, Ireland, while paying homage to the sonic world of the classic 4AD collective This Mortal Coil.
In the short time since its release, the critically acclaimed album has received Pitchfork’s “Best New Music” designation and a rave review from The Guardian. It also led to her being named one of the “30 Coolest Artists Right Now” by The FADER, and the record was chosen as one of the best albums of 2025 by Clash and Loud & Quiet.
