BAZO guide subscription terms
What you get. The subscription gives you access to the BAZO guide: our curated places with the map and the other features listed on the subscription page. Access is tied to your BAZO member account. We keep curating the places; individual places may be added, changed or removed.
Purchase via Polar. The subscription is sold by Polar Software, Inc. (USA) as merchant of record. Polar’s buyer terms also apply to the purchase and payment. Polar collects the payments and issues the invoices; we are responsible for the BAZO guide itself and its content.
Prices and term. €3.99 per month or €35.88 per year (that is €2.99 a month). For buyers in the EU and the UK, VAT is included; in some countries (e.g. the US and Canada) tax is added at checkout. The subscription renews automatically for another month or year until you cancel; payment is due at the start of each period.
Cancellation. You can cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current period – in the settings under “manage subscription & invoices” or by e-mail to hi@bazo.studio. The guide stays unlocked until the end of the period you paid for; after that the subscription ends at no further cost.
Right of withdrawal. You can withdraw from the purchase within 14 days without giving any reason. A short message is enough, ideally an e-mail to hi@bazo.studio (or a letter to the address above), stating the e-mail address of your BAZO account. We will then refund the full amount via Polar – even if you have already used the guide – and end the subscription.
Questions. For questions about the subscription, contact us at hi@bazo.studio. Last updated: September 2026.

privacy policy
BAZO takes the protection of personal data very seriously. Below, we explain which data we collect, process, and use within the scope of our website, when, and for what purposes.
1. Controller
The controller in accordance with art. 4 para. 7 of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is BAZO, Fraunhoferstraße 4, 80469 Munich, Germany. You can reach us at any time by mail or by email at privacy@bazo.studio.
This website uses SSL or TLS encryption to protect the transmission of personal data and other confidential content. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the „https://” string and the lock symbol in your browser’s address bar.
2. Hosting and Server Log Files
This website is served under several addresses and is hosted by two providers: Hostinger International, Ltd., 61 Lordou Vironos Street, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus, and Google Firebase Hosting (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, 4 Barrow St, Dublin, D04 E5W5, Ireland). Which of the two processes your request depends on the address you used to reach this page. When you visit our website, the respective hosting provider automatically collects data that your browser transmits (so-called server log files): the page you visited, date and time of access, amount of data transferred, source/referrer, browser type, operating system, and IP address. Processing is carried out in accordance with art. 6 para. 1 f GDPR based on our legitimate interest in the stability, security, and functionality of our website. Data may also be processed on servers of Google LLC in the USA; Google relies on the standard data protection clauses of the European Commission for such transfers.
3. Database, Media Storage, Event Bookings, and Sign-In
Event listings, articles, and bookings are stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore / Realtime Database, provider as above). Images belonging to our articles are stored in and delivered from Google Firebase Cloud Storage (provider as above); when such images are loaded, your browser transmits your IP address to Google’s servers. If you book a spot for an event, we process the data you enter (such as your name and email address) solely to handle your booking in accordance with art. 6 para. 1 b GDPR. For technical purposes, the site may sign you in anonymously with a random technical identifier; this identifier does not reveal your identity to us. Booking data is deleted when it is no longer required for the event and no statutory retention obligations apply.
3a. Member Accounts („locals” Area)
Certain content on this website (the „locals” recommendations) is reserved for registered members. If you create a member account, we process the data you provide during registration: your email address, your first and last name, your date of birth, and the city you currently live in, as well as — if you use this feature — the list of events you have saved to your account. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication (provider as above); if you sign in with Google, your Google account email and display name are transmitted to us by Google. We process this data solely to provide and personalize the members area in accordance with art. 6 para. 1 b GDPR (performance of the user agreement). Your profile data is stored until you delete your account or ask us to do so; simply email privacy@bazo.studio and your account and profile will be promptly removed. There is no obligation to register — all other parts of the website can be used without an account.
3a-1. Your Location on the BAZO guide Map (Only if You Ask for It)
The BAZO guide map has a button that shows you where you are. Only when you tap it does your browser ask for permission to share your location; without that permission nothing happens. While the button is on, your position is shown on the map and follows you. If you are signed in with a member account at the time, we additionally store your most recently transmitted location (coordinates, approximate accuracy, time) in your profile — at most once per minute — so that we can show you places near you in future. The legal basis is your consent under art. 6 para. 1 a GDPR. Switching the button off deletes the stored location; if you are not signed in, nothing is stored at all. This stored location is only ever the latest one, replacing the previous one. Only our team can see it, in the protected backoffice. You can also revoke the permission in your browser at any time.
Cities visited (only with your consent). You can decide whether BAZO may remember the cities you have been to with your location switched on as early as the notice on your first visit: “accept all”, or “remember cities” under “choose”. We first store this consent only in your browser (localStorage, key bazo_staedte, with time and text version). If you then sign in on this device and nothing has been decided for your account yet, we copy it with these details into your profile – once, and only for that one account; when you sign out, we remove the entry from the browser. If you did not agree in the notice, we ask you once the first time you switch on your location. Only if you agree do we store in your profile a list of country and city with the time of your first and last visit (for example “France – Paris”) — no exact places and no routes. To find the name of the city, we send your coordinates, rounded to about one kilometre, to the Nominatim service of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John’s Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom; the EU Commission has issued an adequacy decision for the United Kingdom. The purpose is to show you your cities in your settings as a travel overview with a stamp for each city and to align our offer with the cities our members travel to; our team can see the list in the protected backoffice. The legal basis is your consent under art. 6 para. 1 a GDPR. Consent is voluntary and not a condition of membership, a subscription or the location and route features. If you decline that question when switching on your location, we ask one more time, at the earliest after 30 days. In your settings you can delete the list and switch this off at any time (withdrawal with effect for the future); switching it off deletes the list, otherwise we keep it until you delete your account.
3b. Redirection to External Ticket Providers
For some events the “book now” button does not lead to a booking with us but to an external ticket provider (e.g. Luma or Xceed). By clicking it you leave this website; from that point the privacy policy of the respective provider applies, and that provider receives your IP address and any details you enter there. We ourselves transmit no personal data to the provider. For bookings made through BAZO itself we collect neither name nor e-mail address — we merely store that a place is reserved for your identifier.
3c. BAZO guide Subscription and Payment via Polar
The BAZO guide is available as a paid subscription. Sale, payment and invoicing are handled by Polar Software, Inc., 3500 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901, USA (“Polar”). Polar acts as the merchant of record: you buy the subscription from Polar, and Polar collects the payment, handles sales tax/VAT and issues the invoice.
When you tap “become a member”, our server creates a checkout for you at Polar. In doing so we transmit your BAZO account identifier, the e-mail address of your account (so you do not have to enter it again), the plan you chose and your language. You enter your name, billing address and payment details directly at Polar; card details are processed by Polar’s payment provider Stripe and never reach us. Polar’s privacy policy applies to these details: polar.sh/legal/privacy-policy.
So that your subscription can be unlocked, we receive the status of your subscription from Polar and store it in your member profile: status, plan (monthly or yearly), start date, next payment or end date after a cancellation, amount and currency, and the identifiers of your customer account and subscription at Polar. Our server (Google Cloud Functions, located in Belgium, provider as above) requests this status from Polar when you return from the checkout, when you choose “check subscription”, or when Polar notifies us of a change (from such a notification we only use your account identifier). Via “manage subscription & invoices” in the settings we open Polar’s customer portal for you, where you can cancel, change your payment method and download your invoices.
The legal basis is art. 6 para. 1 b GDPR (conclusion and performance of the subscription). Polar also processes data in the United States and Canada and, according to its own information, relies on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses for this. We keep the subscription details in your profile for as long as your account exists; Polar keeps invoice and payment records for as long as legal obligations (e.g. tax law) require.
3d. Invitations to the BAZO guide
For now, the BAZO guide is invitation-only: only people who have accepted an invitation can take out a subscription. Members with an active subscription can invite one person, and our team can create invitations as well. To do so, the person inviting enters the e-mail address, full name and city of the person being invited. We store these details together with the invitation (who invited, when, and until when it is valid) in our database (Google Firebase, see section 3); only our server can read them. The person inviting shares the personal invitation link themselves – or asks us to send it once by e-mail. This is only possible if they confirm that they know the person and that the person agrees to the e-mail. We send the e-mail via Brevo (see section 4); it contains only the invitation. So that nobody can use this to send any number of e-mails, we send at most three invitation e-mails per member within 30 days and store when they were sent.
Anyone who opens the link sees the name of the person inviting as well as the name, city and the beginning of the e-mail address of the person invited. If the invitation is not accepted within 30 days, we delete it automatically, together with all details. If the person accepts, they create their own member account (see section 3a); we note in their profile that they were invited and by whom. The invitation then only keeps their name, so that the person inviting can see they have joined – we remove the e-mail address and city there. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in opening the BAZO guide by recommendation at launch (art. 6 para. 1 f GDPR). The invited person can ask us at any time at privacy@bazo.studio to delete their details immediately.
After accepting, the invited person adds their job or industry, their interests and – optionally – their Instagram name to their profile. Apart from themselves, only our team can see these details; we use them to tailor the BAZO guide and our recommendations to our members (art. 6 para. 1 b GDPR) and keep them until the account is deleted.
4. Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we use your email address to send you information about our events, places and offers. The legal basis is your consent under art. 6 para. 1 a GDPR, which you give explicitly by ticking the box when you sign up.
Confirmation (double opt-in). After signing up you receive an email with a confirmation link. Only when you click it do we add your address to the mailing list; without confirmation you will not receive a newsletter. So that an address cannot be written to again and again, we send at most one confirmation email per address per day and at most three in total. Addresses entered before sending started receive one such confirmation email once.
Mailing service Brevo. For the confirmation email and the newsletter we use Brevo, a service of Sendinblue SAS, 106 boulevard Haussmann, 75008 Paris, France. Brevo processes your data on our behalf (art. 28 GDPR) and, according to Brevo, stores it in the EU (France, Germany, Belgium). We pass your email address to Brevo; Brevo also stores when you signed up and confirmed, so that your consent can be proven. We do not measure whether or when you open a newsletter, and we do not analyse clicks per person. Links in the emails technically pass briefly through Brevo servers, which use this to detect abuse.
Storage with us. Your address, the language you chose and the time you signed up are also kept in our database (Google Firebase, see section 3), so that we can trace the sign-up and prevent repeated confirmation emails.
Unsubscribing. You can withdraw your consent at any time – via the unsubscribe link in every email or by sending a message to privacy@bazo.studio. You will then receive no further newsletters; Brevo keeps your address on a block list so that you are not written to again by mistake. On request we delete all entries for your address.
5. Usage Analytics (Only with Your Consent)
To understand which events and articles interest our visitors, this website collects usage information. This happens only if you have given your explicit consent in the consent banner in accordance with art. 6 para. 1 a GDPR — without consent, no usage analytics take place.
Specifically, we record:
- which event cards are shown, viewed and opened, and for how long
- scroll depth and scroll speed
- mouse movement as a path, and touches on touch devices
- clicks that hit nothing, and repeated rapid clicks
- signs that you are about to leave (pointer leaving the window upwards)
- bookings started and abandoned, items saved, filters chosen
- session length, time of day, window width, device type and the page you came from (referrer)
- how often and when you return (counters stored in your browser, which allows recognition across sessions)
Purpose: The data serves our own statistics — for example to see which events and articles attract interest, and to show advertising clients a day-by-day overview of their ads. The evaluation takes place within our own systems.
The “for you” filter: In addition, your device remembers which categories you click on. This list is stored exclusively locally in your browser (localStorage, key bazo_interest) and is never transmitted to us. From your fifth visit onwards it powers an additional “for you” filter that sorts the list by those preferences. The regular event list stays the same for every visitor (date, time, name) — you only see the personal ordering if you click that filter yourself. Without consent the list is not built and the filter does not appear. You can delete it at any time by clearing site data in your browser. No automated decision with legal effect within the meaning of art. 22 GDPR takes place.
The data is stored in our own database (Google Firebase, see above). Anonymous visitors receive a random identifier for this purpose; if you are signed in as a member, the data is linked to your account and is therefore attributable to you. It is not shared with third parties for advertising purposes. You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future:
6. Maps (OpenStreetMap)
To display location maps for our studio and for events, we use map tiles from OpenStreetMap, provided by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (St John’s Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom). To resolve event addresses into map coordinates, the address of the venue is sent to the OpenStreetMap search service (Nominatim). When a map is loaded, your browser transmits your IP address to the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation. Processing is based on our legitimate interest in an attractive presentation of our events in accordance with art. 6 para. 1 f GDPR. Details: osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.
7. Instagram Embeds
Individual articles on this website contain embedded Instagram posts from Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland. These posts are not loaded automatically: you first see a placeholder with a notice. Only when you click “load post” does your browser connect to Instagram’s servers and transmit your IP address — even if you do not have an Instagram account. If you are logged in to Instagram, the visit can be assigned to your account. The legal basis for loading is your consent expressed by the click in accordance with art. 6 para. 1 a GDPR. Details: privacycenter.instagram.com/policy.
7b. Advertising tiles
Between the event tiles we occasionally show paid advertisements, always visibly marked „anzeige / ad“. For billing our advertising clients we count two values per advertisement: how often it was displayed and how often it was clicked. These two totals stand on their own, with no link to your person. Processing is based on our legitimate interest in billing our advertising space in accordance with art. 6 para. 1 f GDPR. If you have consented to analytics (section 5), the display and the click are additionally recorded with a timestamp in your usage record, so that we can show advertising clients a day-by-day history. Without your consent this does not happen.
8. Content Delivery (Scripts)
The map library (Leaflet) and all fonts are hosted on our own server; no third-party connection is established for them. Technical Firebase libraries are loaded from Google servers (gstatic.com); when these files are loaded, your browser transmits your IP address to Google. Processing is based on our legitimate interest in the secure and efficient delivery of our website in accordance with art. 6 para. 1 f GDPR.
9. Fonts
The fonts used on this website are hosted locally on our own server. No connection to Google Fonts or other external font services is established.
10. Your Rights
With respect to your personal data, you have the right to information (art. 15 GDPR), rectification (art. 16 GDPR), erasure (art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (art. 18 GDPR), data portability (art. 20 GDPR), withdrawal of consent given (art. 7 para. 3 GDPR), and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (art. 77 GDPR). If we process your data based on legitimate interest, you may object to this processing at any time for reasons arising from your particular situation (art. 21 GDPR).
11. Storage Duration
We store personal data only as long as necessary to achieve the specified purposes or as required by statutory retention periods. Data processed on the basis of consent is stored until you withdraw your consent.
12. Changes and Questions
We reserve the right to change this privacy policy from time to time to adapt it to current legal requirements or changes in our services. If you have any questions about data protection, please contact us by email at: privacy@bazo.studio
